M17 (NGC 6618)

M17 (NGC 6618) is The Omega Nebula or The Horseshoe Nebula, just visible in binoculars. It requires a large telescope to fully appreciate.

The nebula sits nearly on the border with Serpens, to the north of M24 and M25, both star clusters in the same field but not spectacularly evident in binoculars.

M17 is north of gamma Sgr about nine degrees: binoculars.
