M34 (NGC 1039)

M34 (NGC 1039) is a bright star cluster visible to the naked eye on a very good night.

The cluster has about eighty stars in an apparent area roughly the size of the full moon.

Good binoculars will resolve some of the brighter members while small telescopes improve the view considerably.

The cluster is northwest of beta Persei: binoculars.
