Pictor, The Painter's Easel, is just a crooked line, from alpha to beta, with gamma in between. The asterism wraps itself from the south of Canopus around to the west.

Alpha Pictoris is a white star 100 light years away, with a visual magnitude of 3.2. It is south-southeast of Canopus (or eleven degrees due south from tau Puppis, northeast of Canopus and in the FOV)

Beta Pictoris is very similar to alpha, only slightly less bright at 3.8 visual magnitude, and much closer at 63 light years. It forms the northern terminus of this artist's easel. The star is northwest of Canopus, just out of this bright star's FOV. To the south, is gamma, the middle star in the asterism, with a visual magnitude of 4.5.
