The doctrine of Eternal Security is absolutely foundational to Christianity, on which hinges our salvation and very faith in God & Jesus Christ. However, many professing 'Christian' denominations do not adhere to or preach this doctrine. Regardless, IT IS the Biblical confidence that every born again believer has perfect, complete, and eternal salvation in Jesus Christ. Realize, that to know Christ as your personal savior is to have a secure position before God. Let's look at 1John5:10-13;
"He that BELIEVETH ON the Son of God HATH (ALREADY HAS) the witness in himself... that God HATH GIVEN (ITS ALREADY BEEN DONE) to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that HATH the Son HATH life... These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God; THAT YE MAY KNOW THAT YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE."
Well, that just about sums it up, right?! Who gets it? The BELIEVER in Christ. What does he get? ETERNAL life. How does he get it? It's GIVEN to him by God. When does it happen? HATH implies past tense, so when you become a believer it's done, unconditionally. And since the word eternal means forever, you've got it never to lose it. That's why God says you may KNOW it. Well, I guess we can just about stop here, right?!
NOT HARDLY. We've just touched the surface. I want you to ABSOLUTELY, BIBLICALLY, BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT, KNOW THAT YOU ARE SECURE IN CHRIST. And NOT BY YOUR WORKS. And if you're NOT SECURE or even understand this doctrine, that you can, ultimately, bet your life on this doctrine. For this is the confidence (NOT ARROGANCE!) that our salvation is based on. This can be a complicated doctrine, but it is CRUCIAL that you understand it, are you ready? However, you do NEED to understand what it truelly means TO BE SAVED first!
Now, to start with, let me say that eternal security refers ONLY to those who are 'BORN AGAIN' through repentance & faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It DOES NOT refer to hypocrites that are PRETENDING to be Christian, and are only fooling themselves. True repentance is from the HEART, and those who permanently fall away in sin were NEVER born again Christians in the first place!
