Ara is a faint constellation in the Southern Hemisphere. Alpha Arae is found directly south one binocular field of the Scorpion's stinger.
Alpha Arae and beta (ten degrees to the south) are both 2.8 magnitude stars. Between the two is the star cluster 6397, while 6193 is to the northwest. Alpha Arae is found one binocular field due south of theta Scorpii.
